First Person Female

This writer is faced with the obstacle of writing in first-person as a female, it has become harder than usual because the writer is a male. The basic idea that comes across in this article is that it is easier to write in first-person using the the writers own gender.

The writer must learn to think and feel as if they were of the opposite gender to create a legitimate story. It seems to be a longer process than usual as the writer must almost become the character before they can write the story.

I think your posting could have gotten much deeper into discussing the topic. "The writer must learn to think and feel as if they were of the opposite gender..." How does a writer do this? I think Harrison points out that the writer needs to be able to open himself (assuming a male trying to write as a female) to a broader range of emotions than is normally afforded to heterosexual men. Harrison also points to how he used women from his owm life as source material.

I didn't see that as the basic idea but it was a component. You seem to have skipped the influences of the women in his life. It is not just thinking as if you are a member of the opposite sex it is about combining your idea of them and then broadening from there. It is not that that process takes longer it just requires more effort.

Your entry is a bit roundabout as you skirt around the central topic of creating a persona.

Your posting is not bad but could have been a lot more detailed. Maybe state how the female and male voice differ or how you think Harrison pulled this off and convinced others that he was a female writer.
